Never give them attention when they are pitching fits, throwing tantrums, or being crybabies. Nevertheless, cats' instincts are powerful. It take a little while (not too long), but that perseverance will pay off. just basically means that their human can't hear them. They will also learn that begging for food at 11 p.m., 4 a.m., Noon, etc. On the other hand, they WILL learn that the Human that never gets angry, feeds them at 8 a.m. That doesn't teach them anything except that you're a mean and abusive creature. NEVER appear angry, yell, or hit the cats. When you wake up in the morning, at your own preferred time, just act like nothing happened and feed the cats. If they persist in the "Meow, Meow!" begging for food, just pick them up, carry them to a room in your place where all their noise can't keep you awake, close the door, and go back to sleep. If they bust into your bedroom at 5 a.m., ignore them. Cats have an extraordinarily accurate internal clock. The cats will simply wake up and beg for food at the same time every day. If a routine is established, it won't require the action of the sun any longer. Most kitties are going to begin pestering you as soon as sunrise awakens them, or sundown awakens them, or when their internal clocks go off. After that initial introduction to his/her new home, it's time to start teaching kitty some habits that fit your lifestyle. I have found through my work with cats, that most cats will adjust quickly to your sleep schedule. Cats instinctively understand that sunrise and sundown are the best times to hunt and eat.Ĭats are also creatures of habit, and are also among the world's best energy conservationists. That's the time when, in the wild, small omnivorous and vegetarian animals come out of sleep/hiding to eat. House Cats instinctively hunt and kill in twilight conditions. I've raised cats for almost my entire life, and understand through experience a bit about how they work. It's hereditary, and fits their instinctive survival profile. They react to changes in light, and grow used to that cycle by their very nature.
